Keeping dementia patients’ hands active and busy

January 1, 2018 //  by Editor

At a previous meeting of the steering group in the Calder UF Church, Iain Houston was presented with a fine selection of ‘twiddle muffs’ that had been made by the crafters at the last craft fair and coordinated by Gill Bell.

These knitted muffs, with items attached, are designed to keep dementia patients’ hands active and busy. They are effective in minimising agitation in people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and can even reduce need for medication.

They can also be sewn, crocheted, felted or use your imagination. All varieties and styles are appreciated. They can be donated at village craft fairs, to anyone on the Arts Festival committee and at Calder Church for the Dementia Friendly Lochwinnoch steering group to distribute.
